Pathum Nissanka continued his golden run from the ODI series. He immediately attacked Blessing Muzarabani in the powerplay, striking three boundaries in one over. With crisp timing and aggressive intent, he raced to a half-century. Alongside Kusal Mendis, Nissanka powered Sri Lanka to 96/0 at the halfway stage.

Zimbabwe, however, fought back brilliantly. Nissanka mistimed a pull and fell for 55, sparking a collapse. Richard Ngarava then removed Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis in the same over. Furthermore, Sikandar Raza dismissed Charith Asalanka to keep the pressure building. Muzarabani and Brad Evans also struck, leaving Sri Lanka in trouble at 142/6.

From cruising to struggling, the equation suddenly read 34 needed off 18 balls with only four wickets in hand. At that stage, Kamindu Mendis decided to take charge.

Mendis immediately targeted Tinotenda Maposa in the 18th over. He hammered two sixes and a four, collecting 26 runs in that decisive passage. Consequently, the momentum swung instantly, leaving Zimbabwe deflated. Ngarava tried hard in the penultimate over; nevertheless, Sri Lanka were already in control. Finally, Mendis finished unbeaten, sealing victory in style.

Earlier, Zimbabwe posted a competitive 175/7. Brian Bennett was the standout performer with a blistering 81. He struck boundaries with ease and carried his team’s batting effort. Moreover, supported by Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe looked set for 185+ at 157/3 after 18 overs.

But Sri Lanka’s death bowling proved decisive. Dushmantha Chameera dismissed both Bennett and Ryan Burl in the 19th over, halting Zimbabwe’s charge. As a result, he finished with impressive figures of 3/30 and ensured the hosts did not post an even bigger total.
