Dhaka, March 25: Bangladesh’s former captain Tamim Iqbal is showing signs of recovery following a cardiac arrest, but doctors stress that the next 48 to 72 hours remain crucial for his health.
Tamim collapsed on Monday during a Dhaka Premier League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shine Pukur Cricket Club at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) in Savar. He was swiftly taken to KPJ Specialized Hospital, where an angiogram procedure successfully addressed a blocked artery.
Tamim Iqbal’s condition improves but remains critical
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Health Directorate Director General Professor Abu Jafar confirmed that Tamim’s condition is gradually improving.
Tamim is now able to walk a little, but the next 48 to 72 hours are still critical. He must avoid any physical exertion for at least three months before resuming sports.
Professor Abdul Wadud, director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, added that a recent echocardiogram showed promising results.
His heart is functioning normally, but doctors remain cautious as irregular heart rhythms could still occur. Close monitoring is essential for his recovery.
Tamim’s family is currently deliberating on the best course of action for his recovery.
While the final decision rests with his family, medical experts strongly advise against any premature movement to ensure his safety.
