Brook Opts Out Again, Risks IPL Suspension
Harry Brook has decided to skip the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to focus on England’s upcoming matches. Delhi Capitals bought him for INR 6.25 crore in the 2024 mega auction, but he has now withdrawn for the second consecutive year. His decision could lead to a two-season IPL ban under the league’s latest policy.
New IPL Rule May Ban Brook for Two Seasons
The IPL introduced a rule to prevent last-minute withdrawals.
“Any player who registers for the auction, gets picked, and later withdraws before the season starts—except for medical reasons—will be banned from IPL for the next two seasons.”
Since Brook stepped away for personal reasons rather than injury, he now faces the possibility of missing IPL 2026 and 2027.
Brook Explains His Decision
In a social media statement, Brook explained why he made this choice.
“It is a crucial period for England cricket, and I want to be fully committed to preparing for the upcoming series. To do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest phase of my career so far. I understand that not everyone will agree with my decision, but playing for my country remains my top priority.”
Impact on Delhi Capitals
Brook played one IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023. Last year, he withdrew from Delhi Capitals due to personal reasons. His absence in IPL 2025 forces Delhi Capitals to find a replacement before the tournament begins.
