Struggle defined South Africa’s innings as they reached 154/8 by Tea on Day 1 after choosing to bat first. Although the Proteas hoped to make early use of the surface, India’s bowlers adapted quickly and maintained complete control. As a result, South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never found the rhythm needed to build a strong total.

⚠️ Struggle in South Africa’s Batting Line-up

South Africa’s innings showed early intent; however, the pressure created by India’s bowlers eventually broke their resistance. Markram appeared confident at the crease and struck boundaries regularly, yet his dismissal halted the momentum. Rickelton followed a similar pattern, as he played positively but could not extend his stay.

Meanwhile, De Zorzi and Mulder attempted to rebuild through patience. Even though both showed solid defensive technique, they failed to convert their starts. Moreover, Bavuma’s early wicket added further pressure and forced the middle order into a cautious approach.

Consequently, South Africa found it difficult to stitch together partnerships. Verreynne and Stubbs tried to steady the innings, but Siraj’s wicket of the keeper came at a crucial stage. Additionally, Jansen’s early dismissal and Bosch’s struggle to rotate strike kept India firmly in control.

As Tea approached, Tristan Stubbs continued to hold one end. Nevertheless, South Africa still looked vulnerable with only two wickets in hand and a long way to reach a competitive score.

💥 Struggle Exposed by India’s Bowling Attack

India’s bowlers executed their plans brilliantly. Furthermore, they maintained consistent pressure from both ends, ensuring South Africa never settled.

🔥 Struggle Against Bumrah

Bumrah was exceptional throughout his spells. Although the pitch didn’t offer much movement, he created opportunities through accuracy and subtle variations. Therefore, his figures of 3/23 reflected not just skill but also disciplined execution.

🎯 Struggle Versus Siraj & Spin

Siraj bowled with energy and aggression. Moreover, his wicket of Verreynne came at a time when South Africa needed stability. Kuldeep Yadav, meanwhile, extracted turn and drift beautifully, as he removed both Mulder and Bavuma at critical moments.

Additionally, Axar Patel bowled smartly and delivered a key lbw. Jadeja too kept things extremely tight, allowing almost no scoring opportunities. As a result, the run rate dropped to under three per over, further amplifying South Africa’s struggle.

Eventually, the pressure became too much, and South Africa slipped to 154/8, leaving India with complete control at the Tea break.
