Williamson leads a group of New Zealand stars who have signed casual playing contracts with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for the 2025-26 season. Alongside him, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Finn Allen, and Tim Seifert also agreed to the same arrangement.

These flexible contracts allow players to compete in global franchise leagues. At the same time, they remain part of NZC’s high-performance system. In addition, they receive coaching, medical support, mental skills training, and access to training facilities.

Williamson has confirmed his commitment to the T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Moreover, the group must be available for a set number of bilateral series before the tournament.

Williamson will not play the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia in Mount Maunganui, starting October 1. Instead, he will manage his workload ahead of a busy season.

Finn Allen will also miss the series due to a foot injury. Meanwhile, the squad for the Chappell-Hadlee series will be announced on Wednesday.
