ZIM bounced back in style to level the T20I series 1-1 after dismantling Sri Lanka in the second match at Harare. The hosts bowled out the visitors for just 80 and then chased the target with five wickets in hand and 5.4 overs remaining. This victory not only evened the contest but also gave Zimbabwe confidence heading into the series decider.

ZIM Exposes Sri Lanka’s Batting Collapse 😓

Sri Lanka’s problems started right at the top. Kusal Mendis edged a delivery to third man in the second over, handing Zimbabwe an early breakthrough. Soon after, Pathum Nissanka attempted an ambitious pull but Tony Munyonga completed a sharp catch, leaving Sri Lanka two down inside three overs.

Blessing Muzarabani, using his bounce and pace effectively, sent back Nuwanidu Fernando in the fifth over. Brad Evans followed with a beautiful delivery that knocked over Kamil Mishara in the sixth. As a result, Sri Lanka limped to 37/4 at the end of the PowerPlay.

Hopes once again rested on Kamindu Mendis, who had been the match-winner in the opening game. However, Sikandar Raza denied him any chance of a rescue act, trapping him lbw for a duck. From that point, Sri Lanka’s innings looked completely unsettled.

Skipper Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka tried to rebuild, but their 26-run stand lacked urgency. The pair chewed up 37 balls, and the scoring rate dipped further. The pressure told when Shanaka perished in the 13th over while looking to accelerate.

That dismissal opened the floodgates. Raza struck again in the next over, bowling Asalanka and then trapping Chameera in front of the stumps. The collapse was complete as Sri Lanka lost their last five wickets for just 14 runs. They folded for 80 in 17.4 overs, unable to handle the home side’s relentless bowling attack.

Zimbabwe’s Bowlers Shine 🌟

While Sri Lanka’s batting was poor, Zimbabwe’s bowlers deserve full credit for keeping the pressure on throughout the innings. Sikandar Raza was exceptional with his variations, finishing with 3 for 11 in four overs. His spell broke the backbone of the Sri Lankan middle order.

Brad Evans complemented him perfectly, using pace and seam movement to bag 3 for 15. Blessing Muzarabani’s early strike also set the tone, while the entire unit bowled in partnerships. Their discipline and aggression never allowed Sri Lanka to settle.

Zimbabwe’s Chase Steadies After Early Wobble 🔥

Chasing a small target, Zimbabwe looked to finish the game quickly. Tadiwanashe Marumani found the boundary twice in the second over, but Dushmantha Chameera hit back in style. He dismissed both Marumani and Sean Williams in the fourth over before returning to remove Raza in the PowerPlay. At 29/3, the chase appeared slightly shaky.

However, Ryan Burl played the anchor’s role perfectly. He showed patience, rotated the strike, and kept calm when wickets fell around him. His unbeaten 22 not out proved vital, as it guided the innings through tricky moments.

Brian Bennett supported Burl briefly with a 26-run stand before losing his wicket. Tony Munyonga also fell, but the equation remained comfortable thanks to the low target.

At that stage, Tashinga Musekiwa took charge. The youngster played with freedom and smashed 21 off 14 balls, including boundaries that broke Sri Lanka’s hopes. His cameo shifted momentum firmly in Zimbabwe’s favor. Eventually, Zimbabwe reached 84/5 in 14.2 overs, sealing a five-wicket victory.
