Marcus Stoinis returns to the Australian T20 squad for the three-match series against New Zealand. His comeback adds valuable depth ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Mitch Owen, Matthew Short and Xavier Bartlett also rejoin the squad.

🔥 Marcus Stoinis Back in Australia T20 Squad

At 36, Stoinis is back despite not holding a central or state contract. His last international game came in November 2024. He also retired from ODIs earlier this year.

Stoinis has stayed active in franchise cricket. He played key roles for Punjab Kings in the IPL and Trent Rockets in The Hundred, with both teams reaching the finals.

Now, he faces competition from Cameron Green, Tim David and Mitch Owen for the middle-order spot. Green has opted out of this series to focus on Sheffield Shield cricket. Owen returns after recovering from a concussion that kept him out against South Africa.

💪 Matthew Short and Xavier Bartlett Join Stoinis in Squad

Matthew Short is back after a side strain ruled him out of the West Indies series in July. Fast bowler Xavier Bartlett also keeps his place after strong recent form.

Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie, who came in as cover against South Africa, are not part of this squad. Nathan Ellis will also be absent as he takes paternity leave.

🚨 Mitchell Starc Retires, Cummins Racing Against Time

Australia will miss Mitchell Starc, who recently retired from T20Is. Pat Cummins is still recovering from a back injury. He is aiming to return in time for the Ashes at home.
