🔥 Robinson rescues New Zealand after early collapse

New Zealand’s innings began with promise, but early wickets quickly derailed their momentum. Although Tim Seifert struck a quick 22, his dismissal to Lungi Ngidi opened the floodgates. Soon after, Devon Conway fell in the same over, miscuing a short ball from Maphaka.

Consequently, the middle order crumbled under pressure. Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Hay departed in succession, while James Neesham was undone by a well-directed bouncer. As a result, New Zealand found themselves reeling at 70/5 by the 10th over.

However, Robinson remained unfazed. He dug in with composure and gradually rebuilt the innings. Meanwhile, debutant Bevon Jacobs showed impressive maturity. Together, they stitched an unbroken 103-run stand that not only rescued the innings but also turned the match around.

Robinson brought up his half-century with a six over backward point, while Jacobs played fearlessly, clearing the ropes against Ngidi and Coetzee. In the final five overs, New Zealand added 63 runs, finishing strong at 173/5.

In reply, South Africa made a blazing start. Lhuan-dre Pretorius hammered six boundaries in the first four overs to give the chase early momentum. However, Matt Henry struck back by removing him with a sharp delivery.

Soon after, Jacob Duffy dismissed Rubin Hermann with a short ball, triggering a collapse. In contrast to their start, South Africa lost three wickets in quick succession — Hendricks, Muthusamy, and van der Dussen — reducing them to 62/5.

Although Dewald Brevis launched a brief counterattack with three massive sixes, his stay was cut short by Henry, just after South Africa crossed 100. From there, the pressure mounted steadily.

Despite George Linde’s resistance, New Zealand’s bowlers maintained tight lines. Duffy returned to dismiss both Linde and Maphaka in the same over. Meanwhile, Ish Sodhi and Santner controlled the middle overs effectively.

Eventually, the innings folded for 152 in 18.2 overs. As a result, New Zealand secured a well-earned win, with both bat and ball clicking when it mattered.
