MINY pulled off one of the most remarkable turnarounds in T20 franchise cricket. They clinched the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) title with a 5-run win over defending champions Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
🏏 MINY Hold Nerve in Final Over Thriller
After losing six of their first seven games, MINY completely reversed their fortunes. In the final over, Washington needed 12 runs with Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips at the crease.
However, Rushil Ugarkar, just 22 years old, showed tremendous composure. He gave away only six runs and dismissed Maxwell. Consequently, Obus Pienaar’s miss on the fifth ball left 10 required off the final delivery. As a result, Freedom fell short, and MINY sealed a dramatic win.
🚨 MINY Strike Early to Rock Freedom
Washington got off to a disastrous start. Trent Boult removed Mitchell Owen and Andries Gous in the very first over. Therefore, Freedom were reduced to 0/2.
However, an 84-run partnership between Rachin Ravindra (70 off 41) and Jack Edwards (33 off 22) steadied the innings. Eventually, Edwards fell to Nosthush Kenjige, and Ravindra sliced a slower ball from Ugarkar to extra cover.
Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips tried to revive the chase with two sixes in the 18th over. But Boult’s tight 19th and Ugarkar’s composed final over kept the target out of reach.
💥 MINY Build Competitive Total Through de Kock
Batting first, Quinton de Kock powered MINY with a blazing knock. He smashed 77 off 46 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. He and Monank Patel (28 off 22) added 72 for the opening stand.
Moreover, Nicholas Pooran built on that foundation with a 56-run partnership alongside de Kock. However, Lockie Ferguson changed the game. He took 3 wickets for 24 runs, removing both de Kock and Kieron Pollard in a single over.
Nonetheless, Kunwarjeet Singh’s unbeaten 22 off 13 balls in the final overs ensured MINY reached 180/7, which proved to be a match-winning total.
