Owen-Gous fireworks ignited Washington Freedom’s fourth consecutive MLC 2025 victory. They chased down 221 against Texas Super Kings and won the high-stakes battle by 7 wickets with two balls left.
🧨 Owen-Gous Launch Sets Freedom on Fire
Freedom began their innings with explosive intent. Mitch Owen and Rachin Ravindra smashed five boundaries in the first eight balls. Although Ravindra fell early, Owen took charge after a dropped chance at 20.
By the eighth over, Freedom stood at 72/1, still behind the required rate. However, another dropped catch on Owen at 42 and a no-ball helped shift the momentum. He immediately punished Stoinis by launching two massive sixes.
🔥 Owen-Gous Momentum Shift Breaks TSK’s Grip
From that moment, Freedom seized control. In the 12th over, Noor Ahmad leaked 22 runs, handing the advantage to Freedom. Then, Andries Gous hammered 24 off Donovan Ferreira in the next over.
Although Owen departed for 89, Gous and Glenn Maxwell maintained the charge. As a result, the target came down to five off the last over. Glenn Phillips sealed the match with a boundary on the fourth ball. Gous finished unbeaten on 80, marking his highest MLC score.
🏏 Owen-Gous Heroics Outshine Faf’s Firepower
Earlier, Texas Super Kings scored 220/6 after they batted first. Faf du Plessis dominated the powerplay, smashing 69 off 31 balls. Alongside Smit Patel, he added 55 runs in five overs.
Despite the strong opening, they lost rhythm in the middle overs. Glenn Maxwell bowled a tight spell, taking two wickets for just 35 runs. Owen also starred, claiming 3 for 33 and breaking partnerships.
Their surge pushed TSK to 220. However, Freedom’s top order, powered by Owen and Gous, chased it down clinically.
