Cricket in Asian Games 🏆 is making an exciting comeback! The sport will feature in the 20th Asian Games 🎌, taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan 🇯🇵 from September 19 to October 4 next year. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) 🏛️ and the Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) 🗂️ are expected to make a formal announcement later this week.

📝 Inclusion Set for Approval

A Japan Cricket Association (JCA) 🏏 official told Cricbuzz that the OCA Board hasn’t approved the inclusion yet.
However, it’s widely seen as a formality.

✍️ “The OCA Board will still need to approve it. Although we think that is just a formality. But until they do, it is not 100 percent,” said the JCA official.

Meanwhile, the 3rd OCA Coordination Committee Meeting 🗓️ is running from May 1–2, with early sessions starting on April 30.

🎯 41 Sports to Feature at the Games

The upcoming Games will include 41 sports 🎽 and bring together over 15,000 athletes and officials 👥 from 45 National Olympic Committees 🏅.

In fact, the AINAGOC Board of Directors officially approved cricket’s inclusion on April 28 at Nagoya City Hall 🏢.

🇮🇳 India Aims to Defend Gold Medals

India’s men’s and women’s teams 🇮🇳 previously won gold 🥇 at the 2022 Asian Games, held in 2023 in Hangzhou, China due to COVID-19 delays.

Now, they’ll return as defending champions, aiming to repeat their success 🏆.

🔥 T20 Format to Return

Organisers have confirmed that cricket will follow the T20 format 🔥 once again.

However, the final list of participating teams 🏳️‍🌈 is still under discussion. In the last edition, 14 men’s teams 🧢 and 9 women’s teams 👩‍🦰 took part.

📍 Cricket Venue Still in Discussion

Aichi Prefecture 🗺️ will host the cricket matches.
However, the organisers haven’t decided on the exact venue 🏟️ yet.

Therefore, they are considering a modular stadium 🏗️, similar to the one used during the ICC T20 World Cup in New York 🗽.

🌍 Momentum Builds for Olympics 2028

Cricket’s inclusion in Asian Games 2026 is especially important as it gears up for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics 🎮.
For the first time since 1900, the sport will feature again at the Olympics — in the T20 format.

Previously, Great Britain beat France by 158 runs in the only cricket match of the 1900 Olympics 📜.

🗣️ “Cricket’s popularity in South Asia and its Olympic return will drive massive interest,” said an OCA spokesperson.

Conclusion

Ultimately, cricket’s return to the Asian Games marks a major step in its global expansion 🌐.
With excitement building for both the 2026 Games and the Olympics, fans can look forward to thrilling action from the top Asian teams.
Indeed, Japan 2026 🇯🇵 could be a defining moment for cricket on the world stage 🎉.
