India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS), but the absence of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials during the presentation ceremony sparked controversy.
Shoaib Akhtar Questions PCB’s Absence
Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar raised concerns about PCB’s missing representation. In a social media video, he said:
“India won the Champions Trophy, but something seemed unusual. Not a single PCB representative stood on the podium, even though Pakistan hosted the tournament. I can’t understand why no one represented the country on this global stage.”
Why No PCB Official Appeared on Stage?
Although Pakistan hosted the event, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi chose not to attend the final in Dubai. Instead, PCB sent Sumair Ahmed, the tournament director for the Pakistan leg, as their representative.
However, event protocols restricted non-elected members from standing on the podium. Only ICC and national board officials received invitations, including:
- Jay Shah – ICC Chairperson
- Roger Binny – BCCI President
- Devajit Saikia – BCCI Secretary
- Roger Twose – NZC Director
Andre Russell, the Dubai leg’s tournament director, also remained off the stage due to these restrictions.
Fans and Experts React
India’s victory remained the highlight, but PCB’s absence at the ceremony fueled debate among fans and experts. The incident raised questions about protocol and PCB’s role as the tournament host.
