Vidarbha secured their third Ranji Trophy title in history after playing out a draw against Kerala on the final day. With a crucial 37-run first-innings lead, Vidarbha had already positioned themselves as champions by Day 4. Their batters further piled on the pressure in the second innings, ensuring Kerala had no realistic chance of a comeback.
Heading into the final day with a 286-run lead and six wickets in hand, Vidarbha extended their advantage by adding 126 more runs, pushing their lead past 400. With no viable path to victory for Kerala, both teams eventually shook hands, confirming Vidarbha’s triumph.
The day started cautiously, with minimal runs in the opening overs. Overnight centurion Karun Nair departed early, stumped for 135 while attempting an aggressive shot. Kerala needed quick breakthroughs to keep their hopes alive, but Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey frustrated their bowlers. After the drinks break, Eden Apple dismissed Dubey, while Aditya Sarwate briefly lifted Kerala’s spirits by bowling Wadkar for 25.
However, any potential concerns for Vidarbha were eased as Darshan Nalkande and Akshay Karnewar batted resiliently for 20 overs, effectively running down the clock. Even after Kerala managed a couple of late wickets post-lunch, Nalkande’s attacking stroke play took the lead beyond 400. Once he reached his half-century, the teams mutually agreed to end the contest.
Danish Malewar, who scored a century in the first innings, was named Player of the Match, while Harsh Dubey earned the Player of the Tournament honor.
