Railways’ Himanshu Sangwan Dismisses Virat Kohli, Calls It the ‘Most Important Wicket’ of His Career
Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan has become a talking point among Indian cricket enthusiasts after claiming the prized wicket of Virat Kohi in a Ranji Trophy match against Delhi on Friday. The 29-year-old, who previously played U-19 cricket for Delhi alongside stars like Rishabh Pant , rattled Kohli’s off-stump in the first session on Day 2, marking a career-defining moment.
A tricket collector for Northern Railways, Sangwan expressed his elation after stumps, acknowledging the significance of dismissing the cricketing icon.
“This is the most important wicket of my life, without a doubt. Virat Kohli is an inspiration to the entire country,” Sangwan said.
This Ranji Trophy fixture drew an unusually large crowd, with thousands flocking to the stadium to watch Kohli, adding to the motivation for Sangwan and his team.
Kohli’s Dismissal: A Defining Moment
Kohli, who initially struggled with deliveries outside the off-stump, attempted an aggressive approach against Sangwan. After confidently dispatching a delivery to the boundary, he misjudged the very next ball, missing a drive and watching his off-stump get uprooted.
Given Kohli’s well-documented vulnerability outside off-stump—evident during his recent Austealia tour-Sangwan was asked whether his team had specifically planned for the India great
“We didn’t single out any one batter. Most Delhi players prefer an aggressive approach, so our strategy was to bowl in the right channel and force an outside edge,” he explained.
A Career-Changing Opportunity
Hailing from Charkhi Dadri, but now settled in Najafgarh, Sangwan credited Railways for giving him the opportunity to showcase his skills after missing out on Delhi’s senior squad.
Meanwhile, Sumit Mathur and Ayush Badoni played key roles for Delhi, forging a 133-run partnership for the fifth wicket, securing a crucial lead over Railways. Mathur, who remained unbeaten on 78, described sharing the field with Kohli as an unforgettable experience.
“This is a moment I will cherish for life. Playing alongside Kohli and seeing him interact with us has been surreal,” Mathur remarked.
This Ranji Trophy game marks Virat Khohi’s first domestic red-ball appearance in 12 years , making the match even more memorable for his teammates and opponents alike.
