India Clinches Series with 15-Run Victory in Pune
India secured a thrilling 15-run win over England in the fourth T20I at Pune, sealing the series in style. Key performances from Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, who both scored half-centuries, set the stage for India’s competitive total. Later, a strong bowling display led by Ravi Bishnoi and concussion substitute Harshit Rana ensured England fell short despite Harry Brook’s explosive fifty.
Top-Order Collapse Before Hardik-Dube Revival
Opting to bat first, India faced early trouble as Saqib Mahmood delivered a sensational second over, removing Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Reduced to 12/3, India struggled before Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh counter-attacked. However, Abhishek fell while trying to accelerate, and Rinku’s dismissal left India at 87/5 with just eight overs to go.
From there, Dube and Hardik orchestrated a stunning recovery, stitching together a crucial partnership. While Dube took on Adil Rashid, Hardik found his rhythm after a slow start, smashing sixes off Mahmood, Jofra Archer, and Jamie Overton. Hardik’s 27-ball fifty powered India past 180, while Dube’s back-to-back boundaries in the penultimate over capped off an impressive turnaround.
England’s Chase Falters Despite Brook’s Brilliance
Needing their highest total of the series to stay alive, England started strong, with Phil Salt and Ben Duckett finding early boundaries. Duckett’s aggressive knock powered England to 62 in the powerplay, but his dismissal to Bishnoi triggered a collapse. Soon after, Salt and Jos Buttler fell in quick succession, bringing India back into the contest.
Liam Livingstone and Brook steadied the innings, but Rana, stepping in as a concussion substitute for Dube, made an instant impact by removing Livingstone. Brook then counter-attacked, smashing a rapid fifty and keeping England in the hunt. However, his attempt to take on Varun Chakaravarthy backfired, and Carse followed soon after.
England’s hopes dwindled further as Rana dismissed Jacob Bethell, but Overton and Rashid fought until the end. Despite their efforts, England couldn’t capitalize on the penultimate over, and India held their nerve to seal a series-clinching victory.
Brief Scores:
India – 181/9 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 53, Shivam Dube 53; Saqib Mahmood 3/35)
England – 166 in 19.4 overs (Harry Brook 51; Ravi Bishnoi 3/28, Harshit Rana 3/33)
