“We’re in third place; I don’t think we’ve done too badly. But when we’ve lost, we’ve lost badly. We’d like to be a lot more consistent,” Bedingham said. He remains hopeful of sneaking into the playoffs and repeating their 2023 title-winning run despite a series of heavy defeats this season.

What’s Behind Cape Town’s Resurgence?

The team’s transformation isn’t attributed to a coaching change, as Robin Peterson remains at the helm. However, Kieron Pollard, who captained in 2024, was released in August. Rashid Khan, who led the team in 2023 but missed the last season due to injury, has returned as captain.

Despite Ryan Rickelton’s limited appearances this season due to injury and illness, he has still been instrumental with 237 runs. Rassie van der Dussen has also contributed significantly, ranking second on the run-scoring charts. Bowling-wise, Trent Boult, in his first SA20 campaign, and Kagiso Rabada have provided stability. Rashid Khan leads the team’s wicket-taking charts, while George Linde boasts one of the best economy rates in the competition.

Cape Town all-rounder Corbin Bosch credits their strong chemistry for this year’s success. “We’ve gelled together really well, and it’s helped that many of our players have been in form throughout the competition. There’s always someone stepping up,” he said.
