With the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 set to kick off on February 19, concerns have emerged regarding the readiness of the venues in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had set January 25 as the final deadline to complete preparations. However, recent videos circulating on social media highlight the ongoing construction work, raising doubts about whether the grounds will be ready on time.
Typically, ICC mandates that venues be handed over three weeks before an international tournament. However, with less than 15 days left before the event, PCB has been granted an exception from the usual exclusivity period. According to NDTV Sports, this special consideration allows Pakistan to finalize stadium preparations while also hosting a tri-series from February 8-14, featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand in Lahore and Karachi.
Meanwhile, Dubai is currently hosting the ILT20 2025, and India’s Champions Trophy matches will follow a hybrid model, with games scheduled at neutral venues. Dubai Stadium is expected to be available for use by February 10.
An ICC source confirmed that multiple venue inspections have taken place and that the governing body is satisfied with the progress. The PCB has adhered to the necessary procedures, securing ICC’s approval for hosting events within the exclusivity period.
As the tournament draws closer, all eyes remain on the PCB’s final push to ensure a smooth and timely handover of the stadiums.
