AUSvsNZ 3rd T20I ended in a high-voltage contest as Australia defeated New Zealand by 3 wickets to clinch the T20I series 2-1. Skipper Mitchell Marsh produced an epic unbeaten century, and as a result, guided his side to victory with 12 balls to spare in a memorable chase.

✨ AUSvsNZ: Marsh Leads Australia to Victory

Chasing 157 runs, Australia stumbled early. Travis Head (8), Matthew Short (7), and Tim David (3) fell quickly, and therefore the chase became tricky. The situation worsened when Alex Carey (1) and Marcus Stoinis (2) departed in quick succession, leaving Australia under real pressure at 93/5.

However, Marsh showed remarkable calmness. He blasted 103 off 52 balls* with 3 fours and 8 sixes, and more importantly, controlled the chase from one end. Despite wickets falling, he kept rotating the strike and punished loose deliveries. In fact, his fearless batting completely shifted momentum back to Australia.

When Xavier Bartlett (15) was dismissed in the 16th over, the equation still looked tense. Nevertheless, Marsh kept his cool. He found a reliable partner in Sean Abbott, who added 13 off 7 balls*, and together they ensured Australia reached 160/7 in 18 overs, sealing the series in style.

💪 AUSvsNZ: New Zealand’s Fighting Effort

New Zealand opted to bat first, and although they lost early momentum, they managed to post 156/9 in 20 overs.

Mark Chapman anchored the innings with 45 off 41 balls, holding the innings together.
Meanwhile, skipper Michael Bracewell added 26 off 22, and James Neesham (25 off 18) injected late acceleration.
Additionally, Ish Sodhi (9)* and Jacob Duffy (11)* made useful contributions at the end, pushing the total beyond 150.

Australia’s bowlers, however, did not allow New Zealand to dominate. Sean Abbott (3/30) struck at crucial intervals. Moreover, Xavier Bartlett (2/25) and Josh Hazlewood (2/26) were highly effective with the new ball, restricting New Zealand’s scoring options.

“We really needed Marsh’s wicket, and unfortunately we couldn’t get it. Even then, we fought until the end and kept it competitive. The pitch was under covers for two days due to rain, and as a result, batting wasn’t easy. Fine margins define T20 cricket, and hopefully, with longer series, we can turn things around.”
