Lockie Ferguson produced a sensational spell to lead Trent Rockets to a dominant six-wicket win over Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred 2025 opener. The New Zealand quick took 3-20, which destroyed Phoenix’s top order early. As a result, the chase became a formality for the Rockets.

🔥 Lockie Ferguson Rattles Phoenix Early

Phoenix collapsed to 12/3 inside the first six balls. Will Smeed and Ben Duckett fell cheaply, and soon after, Aneurin Donald was dismissed by Ferguson. Consequently, the pressure grew on Phoenix’s middle order. Moreover, Jacob Bethell’s run-out made matters worse, leaving them at 26/4.

💥 Lockie Ferguson Ends the Fightback

Liam Livingstone and Joe Clarke added 63 runs for the fifth wicket, giving Phoenix some hope. However, Ferguson returned and removed both in the same over, which killed the momentum. Despite late cameos from Benny Howell and Dan Mousley, Phoenix only reached 122/6, a total that was never likely to be enough.

🚀 Banton & Rehan Power Rockets Home

Joe Root fell early in the chase, yet Tom Banton (43 off 29) and Rehan Ahmed (25 off 16) attacked from the start. They hit six fours and four sixes between them, ensuring the required rate stayed low. Although Howell struck twice, Max Holden’s unbeaten 22 and Adam Hose’s two boundaries sealed the win with 22 balls left. In the end, it was a comfortable victory for the Rockets.
