Rashid Khan will lead a confident and determined Afghanistan squad into the Asia Cup 2025, as the ACB revealed a 22-member preliminary list. Although his IPL 2025 campaign was underwhelming, the board has backed him entirely.
Despite taking just 9 wickets and leaking runs at over 9 per over for GT, Rashid skipped MLC to focus on national duty.
“Rashid remains our biggest match-winner,” said ACB selector Mir Mubariz.
🏏 Rashid Khan’s Squad Strategy & Preparation
The team will undergo a two-week training camp before playing a tri-series against UAE and Pakistan. This will help selectors assess form and fitness before finalizing the 15-member squad.
Furthermore, new faces like Wafiullah Tarakhil, Abdullah Ahmadzai, and Bashir Ahmad add freshness to the mix. Therefore, this squad strikes a balance between youth and experience.
🔁 Spin Power Around Rashid Khan
Afghanistan’s world-class spin attack is still their strongest suit. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb, Nabi, and Ghazanfar form a lethal quartet. In addition, emerging talents like Nangyal Kharoti and Sharafuddin Ashraf—MVP of Shpageeza 2025—boost the depth.
Consequently, their spin battery will thrive in UAE’s dry, turning tracks.
⚡ Pace Battery Gets Sharper
Afghanistan’s pace arsenal is also shaping up well. Youngsters like Ahmadzai, Bashir, and the returning Salim Safi all bowl above 140 kmph. Moreover, they offer both swing and aggression.
Thus, Afghanistan won’t be short on firepower in the fast-bowling department.
🚀 Top-Order Batting Faces Competition
Batting is another area where options abound. Gurbaz, Atal, and Ibrahim Zadran are expected to battle it out for the opening slots. Since all three have been in decent form, the final XI could hinge on match-ups and conditions.
📅 Group B Fixtures
- 🆚 Hong Kong – Sept 9, Abu Dhabi

Clearly, Afghanistan must be at their best to progress to the Super Fours.
