🟠 Tough Start to IPL 2025 for SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad have hit a rough patch this season. After a stellar IPL 2024 campaign, they now find themselves on a four-match losing streak. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Gujarat Titans, who cruised to a seven-wicket win on April 6.
🗣️ Vettori Stays Hopeful Despite Setbacks
Head coach Daniel Vettori acknowledged the poor form but expressed belief in the squad’s ability to bounce back.
“It’s disappointing. Expectations are high, and we haven’t delivered. But the five-day gap before facing Punjab is a chance to reset,” said Vettori.
💥 Aggressive Approach Backfiring
Last year, SRH made waves with their fearless batting. They posted massive totals, including a record-breaking 287 against RCB. Their 2025 opener was promising too, with Ishan Kishan hammering a century.
But that high-octane approach has failed since. The aggressive style has led to frequent collapses, with little adjustment to changing pitch conditions.
📉 Basics in Place, Execution Missing
Vettori believes the plan against GT was solid, but the execution didn’t match expectations.
“The wicket was slow. We targeted 160-170, but fell 20 runs short. That made a big difference,” he said.
🔥 Siraj Strikes Against Former Franchise
Former SRH pacer Mohammed Siraj was the game-changer. His spell of 4/17 derailed SRH’s innings early. He dismissed both openers in the Powerplay and returned at the death to remove a set batter.
“He was brilliant. Hit the stumps, bowled with precision, and kept us under pressure,” Vettori admitted.
🧠 Mentality and Fielding Need Improvement
SRH’s woes are not limited to batting. Their fielding has been below par, and Vettori believes it reflects the team’s overall energy.
“We haven’t been close to our best in all three departments. And our fielding has been especially poor,” he said.
📊 Batting Collapse Causing Pressure on Bowlers
After scoring 286 and then 190+ in their first two matches, SRH haven’t managed more than 175 in the last three games. Their bowlers are being asked to defend below-par totals, which has put them on the back foot.
“In 2024, we put up big totals and held on. This year, nothing has clicked,” said Vettori.
🧩 Top-Order Needs Better Game Awareness
The explosive trio of Head, Abhishek, and Kishan is yet to find rhythm. Vettori called for more adaptability and smarter assessments from his batters.
“This wasn’t a typical Hyderabad wicket. Ishan did well early, but we need the whole top order to assess conditions better and deliver,” he said.
⏳ Time to Reset Before Facing Punjab
With a five-day break before their next match, SRH will aim to regroup, refocus, and come back stronger.
“We know we’re a good team. We just haven’t shown it yet,” Vettori concluded.
