Australia has revealed its list of centrally contracted players for the 2025-26 season, featuring 23 names. Notably, three new players—Sam Konstas, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Beau Webster—have earned their spots. Their recent performances played a crucial role in securing these contracts.

New Additions and Their Impact

Kuhnemann was outstanding in Australia’s Test series victory in Sri Lanka, where he picked up 16 wickets in just two matches. As a result, the left-arm spinner has established himself as a key player in the red-ball format, with 35 wickets in just five Tests.

Similarly, Konstas made an immediate impact in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite facing a strong Indian bowling attack, the 19-year-old opener impressed with a vital 60 on debut. Consequently, his fearless batting shifted the series momentum in Australia’s favor.

Meanwhile, Webster also made his debut in the same series, contributing with both bat and ball. His fifty in his first game, along with his bowling skills, highlighted his potential as a valuable all-rounder. Given Australia’s emphasis on multi-skilled players, Webster’s selection adds depth to the squad.

Senior Players Retained Amid Transitions

Despite injury concerns, Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green have retained their contracts. At the same time, experienced players like Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, and Nathan Lyon remain part of the squad, ensuring stability as Australia prepares for future challenges.

Speaking about the new additions, Chairman of Selectors George Bailey shared his thoughts:

  • “Matt was exceptional in Sri Lanka, and we believe he will play a key role moving forward.”
  • “Beau enhances team balance by contributing with both bat and ball.”
  • “Sam is an exciting young talent who will continue developing at the highest level.”
