Michael Bracewell will captain New Zealand at home for the first time in the five-match T20I series against Pakistan. He previously led a second-string squad against them in an away series last year. This time, only seven players from the Champions Trophy squad are available.
Key Players Missing Due to IPL
Several regulars will miss the series due to their Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments. This includes Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Bevon Jacobs. However, the squad welcomes back Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, and James Neesham, who were involved in T20 leagues.
New Faces and Returning Players
Ish Sodhi returns after missing the Sri Lanka series. Ben Sears is also back after recovering from a hamstring injury. To manage workloads, Kyle Jamieson and William O’Rourke will play only the first three matches.
Bracewell Ready for the Challenge
Bracewell is excited to lead the team and expects a strong challenge from Pakistan.
“Captaining New Zealand is a huge honor, and I really enjoyed the experience in Pakistan last year. It’s great to have several players from that squad back.
Mitch Santner has done an excellent job as white-ball captain. My goal is to build on his leadership and create a strong team environment.
Pakistan is always a dangerous T20 side with immense firepower. They will be eager to bounce back after their early Champions Trophy exit.”
