West Indies bowlers trigger collapse under lights
West Indies turned up the heat during the final session on Day 1 of the historic day-night Test at Sabina Park. Although Australia looked solid early on, the hosts seized control once the pink ball began to zip around under lights. As a result, Australia collapsed dramatically, losing seven wickets for just 87 runs to end their innings at 225.
West Indies strike back after early resistance
Australia started cautiously after winning the toss. Even though debutant Sam Konstas fell early to Jayden Seales, Cameron Green and Steve Smith steadied the innings with a 61-run stand. However, just before Tea, Seales bowled Green with a sharp in-swinger. That breakthrough completely shifted the momentum in favor of West Indies, who wasted no time pressing forward.
West Indies dominate with pace and sharp fielding
After Tea, Shamar Joseph got the big wicket of Smith with a wide delivery that drew a nick. Soon after, Beau Webster fell cheaply, and Travis Head’s mis-hit ended in a stunning diving catch from Anderson Phillip. Meanwhile, Hope’s earlier one-handed stunner behind the stumps to remove Khawaja had already set the tone.
Consequently, Australia found themselves in deep trouble. Justin Greaves added three crucial wickets, maintaining relentless pressure. Together with Joseph and Seales, he ensured that Australia had no room to recover.
West Indies survive tricky session with the bat
In reply, West Indies were tested under the floodlights. Debutant Kevlon Anderson fell to Starc early, but Brandon King and Roston Chase stayed calm. Even though scoring was tough, they showed great patience and ensured there was no further damage. Therefore, the hosts ended Day 1 at 16/1, trailing by 209 runs but holding the edge in terms of momentum.
