August 6-match tour between India and Sri Lanka could take place after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) formally approached the BCCI. They proposed three ODIs and three T20Is for the now-vacant August window. The tour would replace India’s postponed trip to Bangladesh.

🇱🇰 SLC Proposes Identical Fixtures for August 6-Match Tour

SLC has offered to host India from August 17 to 31, proposing the exact six-match format previously scheduled in Bangladesh. This move would help both boards avoid a scheduling gap in a packed international calendar.

However, the BCCI has yet to respond. It is still evaluating its options while keeping broader tournament commitments in mind.

“There is a request pending from the SLC, but we have not decided on it yet. We have to see the Asia Cup situation. Everything is interlinked,”
— a BCCI official told Cricbuzz (July 9)

🏆 Asia Cup Decision Will Impact August 6-Match Tour

The proposed tour depends heavily on the outcome of the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled between September 17 and 27. Since Pakistan is involved, the Indian government must clear any participation.

Therefore, the BCCI has delayed its confirmation. A decision on both fronts — the Asia Cup and the Sri Lanka tour — is expected within 2–3 days.

Moreover, BCCI must consider workload management, especially with the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy both on the horizon. If feasible, both events may still proceed with staggered squads.

🗣️ Key Discussions Underway During Lord’s Test

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia is currently in London for the third Test between India and England. While there, he plans to consult:

  • Head coach Gautam Gambhir
  • Chief selector Ajit Agarkar
  • Senior players including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

As a result, the BCCI is expected to make a final call following these discussions. This ensures that both management and players have a say in the scheduling process.

🔙 Rohit and Kohli May Return in August 6-Match Tour

If approved, this tour could mark the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI setup. Both players have stepped away from T20Is and Tests. However, they remain crucial to India’s 50-over strategy.

In addition, the matches will offer ideal preparation ahead of major tournaments. The series provides game time in subcontinental conditions and helps India test combinations.
