🏏 Shepherd Leads from the Front in Unicorns’ Dominant Victory

Shepherd was the standout performer as San Francisco Unicorns registered their sixth win in a row in MLC 2025. With a 32-run victory over Seattle Orcas, they not only extended their unbeaten streak but also became the first team to enter the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Orcas remain winless after five games.

🔥 Shepherd Rescues Unicorns After Middle-Order Stumble

The Unicorns were asked to bat first and suffered an early setback when Finn Allen fell in the second over. However, Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk steadied the innings with a quick 68-run partnership.

Harmeet Singh, who has been Orcas’ top bowler this season, struck thrice in two overs to rattle the middle order. Consequently, the Unicorns slumped to 103/6. At that stage, Shepherd stepped up with a counterattacking knock.

He smashed 56 off 30 balls, turning the momentum around.
In the final over, he launched three massive sixes off McCoy.
As a result, the Unicorns posted a competitive total of 176/8.

💥 Shepherd Strikes to Trigger Orcas’ Collapse

Seattle Orcas had a blistering start to their chase. Notably, Shayan Jahangir hit two sixes in the opening over, followed by a 15-run second over. Alongside David Warner, he powered Orcas to 59/0 in the PowerPlay.

However, the tide turned rapidly.

Shepherd bowled Jahangir, breaking the momentum.
In the very next over, Short removed Warner and Mayers, Orcas’ best batter this season.
Then, Haris Rauf took charge, removing Klaasen and applying the brakes on the chase.

⚡ Shepherd Returns to Break Final Stand

Despite losing wickets, Orcas found some hope through Hetmyer and Nayak. They added runs steadily and attempted a late recovery. Eventually, Shepherd returned to end that partnership too, dismissing Nayak just as pressure built.

Furthermore, Hetmyer counterattacked briefly. However, the asking rate kept climbing. Rauf then returned to dismiss Hetmyer and Coetzee in one over, sealing the game.
